R. Taylor

R. Taylor (she/her) is a digital painter and illustrator (and sometimes graphic designer) who specializes in art with a speculative bent. In addition to illustrations for her prose (in her alternate identity as R. J. Howell) and cover art for friends’ (and friends of friends’) novels, she paints an ongoing series titled simply “Hands,” (or, “that creepy hands series”) which she has been working on since 2014. “Hands” is a series of grayscale paintings depicting contorted or flexed nude figures with hands in place of feet. The paintings are an exploration of the beauty and emotion of the nude human form frozen in utmost mobility and motion with the expressiveness of multiple sets of hands. Otherwise, her art leans heavily to dragons and glorious vistas set around sunset or dawn, and look like the illustrations for Magic: The Gathering land cards. She likes to say that she paints with light.
